The Shallotte Planning Board has recommended approval of the site and landscaping plans for a new medical office park and an expansion of the town hall building.

At last week’s meeting, the planning board recommended approving the plans as well as a business planned building group classification for Coastal Landmark Medical Office Park, to be at 2298 Ocean Highway W. on the north end of town in a highway business zoning district. The property is now being used as an outdoor display for swimming pools.

According to the application, the project will include three buildings, each containing 3,105 square feet. The park will be accessible by one driveway.

The planning board also recommended approval of staff’s recommendations including providing loading and unloading areas, turn-arounds for emergency and sanitation vehicles, a lighting plan approved by Brunswick Electric, two fire hydrants, redesigning a stormwater pond so an oak tree is not removed, constructing a right-turn lane and obtaining an N.C. Department of Transportation driveway permit, among specifications.

Also last week, the board recommended approval of site and landscaping plans for a planned town hall expansion that would add square footage to the current offices. Members also voted to change the regular meeting time from 7 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. between May and August.
