To the editor:
I read recently that a local couple wants to launch a “new” chamber. Their new chamber would spend years “re-inventing” what a chamber is.
The national chamber would not recognize the new chamber. This sounds to me like a local business that has not taken the time to get involved and find out what the existing local chamber can actually do for a business.
A local business that is not a member of the chamber is missing out on resources offered. We did not know how much our chamber would offer help until we joined. Since that time, board members have taken advantage of training classes and networking with other businesses to make us stronger. More than 50 percent of small businesses fail in less than five years because of lack of experience and poor management.
On March 21, the nonprofit organization I represent, Paws-Ability, was named Nonprofit of the Year by the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce. We are proud to be part of our local chamber, and we are more than pleased with the support and services we receive from them.
We thank business members of the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce for the support they offered to Paws-Ability.
We raise funds to assist in opening a low-cost spay-neuter clinic, funds that operate spay and neuter programs within the community and funds that help local rescue groups pay medical expenses for the animals in their care.
We are proud to be a chamber member.
