The 2010 Psalmos Music School will take place July 19-22 at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Bolivia.
The Rev. Anthony Clemmons also announced this year’s music school instructors would include multiple Grammy nominee and Dove Award winner The Nelons from Jacksonville, Fla.
The program is for those who enjoy gospel music and would like to learn more about developing harmonic and rhythmic skills, vocal technique and song writing. Classes are on Monday through Wednesday evening as follows:
4:30-5:50 p.m.: Classes for youth and children will include music theory, choral technique and vocal training using Dottie Rambo’s “Down by the Creek Bank;” Michael Clemmons, instructor.
6-6:15 p.m.: Devotional time.
6:15-7:30 p.m.: Music theory with choral singing; Jason Clark of The Nelons, instructor.
7:40-8:30 p.m.: Vocal technique with choral singing; Kelly Nelon Clark of The Nelons, instructor.
8:40-9:15 p.m.: Songwriting with Lawrence Chewning, author of “The Anchor Holds” or A-Z Music recording with Frank Mills, instructor.
The music school will conclude with a gospel concert featuring The Nelons and the music school students at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 22.
The 2010 Psalmos Music School, which is offered in memory of Crystal Crabtree, is designed to give gospel vocalists a foundation for sharing the gospel in song and will help develop repertoire, performance and presentation skills.
In addition, all music school students will have the opportunity on Friday, July 23, to attend a live recording session at Serenade Studios in Bladenboro.
Cost for participants 15 years and younger is $25; 16 years and older, $50. Three 30-minute private lessons are available for $75. To schedule private lessons, call 231-6438.
