To the editor: I have lived in Brunswick County since 1983. I worked the polls for Ronald Hewett. I believed in him then and I believe in him now.
I remember when he had people shooting at his home; I even saw the bullet holes. No wonder he moved off the road, and who else is supposed to watch his property if not the law?
I know I would have but I’m just a citizen of Brunswick County. Now we can’t have that, so whose job is it?
Since this mess started, I called and was referred to Rex Gore. So I called. Instead of listening to my concerns, I was hung-up on.
Come on, people! I know there are more people out there who have depended on Ronald Hewett like me and still believe in him.
Speak up! He’s done more for this county than just being its sheriff. He has saved lives—my son for one.
Drugs, well, he beats at that every day, same as every other county in the state. You can’t beat something that’s so big in money, but he sure does try.
He walked into the courthouse like a kicked-down man. Where are all the deputies who have been under his wing until they were ready to hit the roads and streets alone?
Come on, guys! It’s been sneaky and backbiting, and he’s taken more than any other person I know.
Thank you, Ronald, for being my friend, my shoulder to put concerns on and for never thinking something minor didn’t mean something to me.
God bless you and your family. You’re the man others wish they could be: husband, father, kin and friend—an honest friend.
