Benefit concert set at church

A Big Band benefit concert, featuring the Stardusters, will take place at Calabash Presbyterian Church, 8820 Old Georgetown Road in Sunset Beach, beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 12.

The Stardusters Big Band was started in 1999 when a few members of the North Myrtle Beach, S.C., community wanted to play big band music and decided to start a big band. The first conductor of the band was Ray Heaney from Elizabethtown. The band, which played music written prior to 1950, is now directed by Ralph Butler. Since then, the band has been playing for many civic functions and the music has become more up-to-date with new, more contemporary arrangements, while still maintaining many of the old favorites.

A free-will offering will be taken to benefit Providence Home, Brunswick County’s only Family Emergency Teen Shelter.

Come out for an evening of big band music and support Providence Home in its work with teens that find themselves in need of temporary shelter due to unfortunate circumstances at home.
