Usher celebration planned

Greater Tabernacle Church Ministries, 683 Longwood Road NW in Ocean Isle Beach, will have its annual usher’s anniversary at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28. Guest speaker will be the Rev. John Williams of Holy Light Holiness Church in Tabor City.

On Monday, Aug. 29, there will be an open house for Bread of Heaven College of Theology beginning at 7 p.m. Associate, bachelor and master degrees are being offered. Classes will begin Sept. 13.

Men’s Conference scheduled

The Leap of Faith Men’s Conference in Brunswick County, featuring Men at the Cross, will be from 8 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Nov. 5 at First Baptist Church of Shallotte.

Guest speakers include: Joe White, Dr. Rick Rigsby, Ted Cunningham, Dr. Joe Brown and teen speaker Adam Donyes. Worship will be led by Chris Julian.

Conference topics will include: Inspiring Worship, Motivation Teaching and Evangelism and Discipleship. Pastors and students receive free tickets and can register online at www.tickets.menatthecross.org.

Church plans concert on Aug. 21

St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 205 East Moore St. in Southport, will host An Afternoon of Jazz featuring Bob Russell on guitar, Mike Waddell on woodwinds and Dean Carbone on vibraphone at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21.

This program is part of the St. Philip’s Summer Concert Series and is free and open to the public.

Trinity UMC sets services

“Naïve Christians” will be the title of the Rev. Jeff Roberts’ and associate pastor Michelle Sabin’s sermon on Sunday, Aug. 21, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 E. Nash St. in Southport. Based on scripture from John 1:1-5,14, this is the fourth in a series of sermons based on the title, “They Like Jesus But Not the Church.”

Three worship services will be available: a casual service at 8 a.m., a contemporary service at 9:30 a.m. and a traditional service at 11 a.m. The 9:30 a.m. service in Murrow Hall will have music by Promise, the Trinity worship band.

Nursery care is provided at all services. Sunday school for all ages is at 9:30 and 11 a.m. and children’s church is at 11 a.m.

Church plans yard sale

Ocean View Baptist Church, 7025 Beach Drive SW in Ocean Isle Beach, is hosting a yard sale beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, to raise money for its Family Life Center’s vacation Bible school.

There will be also be free face painting for children, a bake sale, hot dogs and drinks, a car wash and a $5 pancake breakfast starting at 7 a.m. Several prize drawings will take place at 2 p.m.
