Calabash Presbyterian sets services
Calabash Presbyterian Church will celebrate Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m. April 5. Easter Sunday services will begin at 8 a.m. April 8 on Sunset Beach and at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. Adult Sunday school is at 11 a.m.
Trinity UMC sets services for Holy Week
Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 E. Nash St. in Southport, has announced its complete schedule of worship services for Holy Week beginning with Palm Sunday and ending on Easter. Everyone in the community is welcome to attend.
On Palm Sunday, April 1, a Palm Processional led by the children of Trinity will begin each of the four worship services: 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. traditional services in the church sanctuary and the 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. contemporary services in Murrow Hall with Praise, the worship band, providing the music. Childcare is available during all services. Sunday school for all ages is at 9:30 a.m. and children’s church is at 11 a.m. in the Kids Zone.
On Maundy Thursday, April 5, a worship service commemorating The Last Supper will be at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. Communion will be served. Childcare is available for children up to four years old.
On Good Friday, April 6, the combined adult choirs, under the direction of Diane Kulp, will present its Lenten cantata “Who Do You Say That I Am?” at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. The service will include narration and drama. Childcare will be available for children up to 4 years old.
Easter Sunday, April 8, will begin with a sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. “Go Ahead God,” based on scripture from Mark 16:1-8, will be the title of the Rev. Jeff Roberts’ and associate Pastor Michelle Sabin’s sermons at the four regular worship services. Childcare is available at all services, Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m. and children’s church is at 11 a.m. in the Kids Zone.

“Psalm of the Cross” will be April 19-23

Easter cantata is April 8 and 15
The Calvary Baptist Church adult choir, under the direction of Kelly Page, will perform an Easter cantata, “The Risen Christ,” at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, April 8. The choir will present an encore performance of the cantata at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 15.

Sermons set for Palm Sunday
“The Apprentice Judas” will be the title of the Rev. Jeff Roberts’ and associate pastor Michelle Sabin’s sermons on Palm Sunday, April 1, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 E. Nash St. in Southport.
Based on scripture from Luke 6:12-16, this is the final sermon in a series titled “The Apprentice,” based on the TV series, a look at some of the followers of Jesus.
Four worship services will be available: a casual service at 8 a.m., contemporary services at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. and a traditional service at 11 a.m. The 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services in Murrow Hall will have music by Promise, the Trinity worship band. A Children’s Palm Processional will open each service and Communion will be served at all services.

Gospel sing features Gospelaires April 1
Oak Grove Baptist Church on Holden Beach Road will have a gospel sing at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 1, featuring The Gospelaires, a local group. Everyone is invited.
Bring cereal to Mah Jongg game Thursday

Candy and cookie sale is March 31
Ocean View United Methodist Church will host its third annual candy and cookie sale from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at 8400 East Oak Island Drive in Oak Island. Candy and cookies are homemade. Candy will be sold by the pound and cookies will be sold by the dozen. Buy all of one kind or mix and match. Youth will be selling sausage/egg/cheese biscuits with coffee until noon, and then hot dogs/chips/canned drinks until 2 p.m.
Brunswick stew lunch set for March 31
Soldier Bay Baptist Church, on the corner of Longwood Road and Whiteville Highway (N.C. 130) in Ash, will feature a Brunswick stew lunch beginning at 11 a.m. March 31. The stew will be cooked by Oren Knicely,
Southern Brunswick Island Brunswick Stew Cook-off Champion for 2010.
The menu will include Brunswick stew, hush puppies and drinks for a $5 donation or 1 quart of stew for a $10 donation.
Used furniture will also be sold on this day.
