Randy Lee Richardson, the Shallotte teen charged with the murder of his 4-month-old child June 5, received a $500,000 bond Monday.

Despite the bond, Richardson remains in the Brunswick County Detention Center.

Richardson, 19, of 1515 Pelican Place in Shallotte, was arrested for the murder of Colton Tillman Richardson.

The baby’s birth certificate obtained by the Beacon through the Brunswick County Register of Deeds office lists Randy Lee Richardson as the baby’s father and Brandy Nicole Elkins as his mother.

According to an obituary, Colton died June 2. Sheriff’s office and 911 documents indicate the baby was injured on May 29.

Richardson made a first appearance in court Wednesday, June 5.

At the time, District Court Judge Marion Warren ordered Richardson held without bail and also stated Richardson could face the death penalty if he is convicted of first-degree murder.

Richardson was court-appointed an attorney, James Payne of Shallotte.

“This is a heartbreaking case no matter how you look at it. This is a boy who stepped up to raise, love and care for this baby. There is no happy ending,” Payne said Monday in a statement.
