Rourk Library in Shallotte dedicated April 6

Fifty people attended the formal dedication of the recently revamped Rourk Branch Library in Shallotte on Sunday, April 6.

The president of Friends of the Library Sheila Umbricht emceed the ceremony, with pastor John Causey of Shallotte Presbyterian Church giving the invocation.

Among dignitaries attending were state Sen. R. C. Soles, Brunswick County Commissioner May Moore, county manager Marty Lawing, assistant county manager Steve Stone, county library director Reecie Tate, and Marylin Searby, president of the Brunswick County Library Board of Directors.

Special recognition was given to Charles Freeman, primary benefactor for the library expansion.

Stone, the county’s liaison for library projects, spoke about the coordinated efforts of all involved. The ceremony concluded with attendees sampling homemade cookies and punch.
