School resource officer funding in trouble as state cuts education budget

-A A +A
By Kathryn Jacewicz, Staff writer

BOLIVIA—Brunswick County Schools is expecting at-risk funding to be cut a half-million dollars, leaving the board of education wondering where it will find funding to keep all of its school resource officers (SROs).

The state now gives the district funding for four of its 10 officers, and the funding only goes toward officers in high schools. But with the state budget nearly eliminating this funding, the district is left to find funding on its own.

The county budget for the 10 SROs is about $635,000, with the average salary at $65,366.
