The Beachcombers played a two-man team best-net tournament Friday at Eastport. Six teams all finished below par and within one shot for each position. The winners with a 56 were Jim Ritter and Bob Smith. In second were Bud Dunham and Tom Culverwell at 57. In third at 58 were Bob Byrne and Gary Gutheil. Low round was Gary Gutheil at 81. Low net was Jim Ritter at 61. Jim Ritter is golfer of the week.
On Feb. 13 at River Hills, Pete Scott, Karl Pettersen, Sid Pennington and Ricky Rix placed first at 172. Teams scored a gross and a net on even-numbered holes and a gross and two nets on odd-numbed holes. The team of Jack Burch, Steve Maiorca, Tony Languell and Bob Levan placed second.
On Friday at Possum Trot, Jim Kennedy, Geoff Girling, Steve Maiorca, Joe Gallo and a player by draw placed first at 199. The five-man teams scored a gross and two nets per hole. Placing second was the team of Frank Janton, Karl Pettersen, Don Pollanck, Rich West and John Ducey.
Carolina Shores men
Results Friday at Carolina Shores. The game cha-cha-cha. First at 119 were Bill Marsh, Jim Burke, Jack Bendy and Bob Fyock. Second at 122 (by match of cards) were Art Hahl, Dick Boyle, Joe McDonough and a player by draw. Third at 122 were Ken Burczynski, Paul Wuthrich, Fen Loomer and Joe Broderick. Fourth at 126 were Glenn Ikens, Kerry Jarrell, Bill Harniman and a player by draw. Closest to pin at No. 3, Art Hahl; at No. 7, Glenn Ikens; at No. 12, Dick Boyle; at No. 17, Bob Fyock.
