The Beachcombers played a 1-2-3 cha-cha-cha tournament Friday at Cypress Bay. The winners on a match of cards at 119 (-27) were Dennis Davidson, Ed Nocella, Dennis McCann and Larry Cecil. In second were Bill McDavit, Bob Smith, Gary Gutheil, Bob Byrne and Hal Riebesehl. Gross: Stu Cleveland, Russ Russo, Sid Silver and Scott McBean, all at 88. Net: Ed Nocella, Scott McBean and Mike Cotton, all at 66. Ed Nocella was voted golfer of the week.

Om May 6, Howard Ray eagled Tiger’s Eye eighth hole, a 274-yard par-4, using a driver sinking a sand-wedge shot from 80 yards.
On May 6, Al Keegan eagled Tiger’s Eye 15th hole, a 447-yard par-5, using a driver and a 4-hybrid to reach the green and sinking a 12-inch putt. This was his sixth eagle on this hole.

Joan Mason scored a hole-in-one May 2 on the third hole at the Maples Course. She used an 8-iron on the 90-yard hole.  This was her fifth hole-in-one.

Ruel scores eagle
On Saturday, Roscoe Ruel scored an eagle-3 on the 532-yard par-5 ninth hole at Leopard’s Chase Golf Club using a driver and a 3-wood to reach the green and then sinking the putt. His partners were Angela Ruel, Bob Kronberg and Otto Mueller.

CGA tourney
Jim Bradley, Leland, and Jim Stirling, of Wilmington, shot a 74 and finished tied for third in the men B/mixed class of the Carolinas Golf Association’s one-day four-ball tournament Saturday at Coharie Country Club in Clinton.  Michael Mauney and Randy Mitchem, both of Southport, shot a 75.
Steve Wilkinson, of Wilmington, and Austin Heath, of Leland, shot a 72 and tied for sixth in men A class.
