Beachcombers
The Beachcombers played a three nets tournament Friday at Farmstead. The winners at 184 (-32) were Bill Cameron, Ed Hennessey, Dick Cecil and Sid Silver. Second were Stu Cleveland, Dan O’Connell, Bob Smith and Jim Beairsto at 192 (-24). Gross: Bob Smith, 85, and Gary Gutheil, 88. Net: Bob Smith, 61, Bill Cameron, 62, Dick Cecil, 66, and Stu Cleveland and Jim Beairsto 69. Bob Smith is golfer of the week.

Brick Landing
The Brick Landing Planation Ladies Golf Association league event on May 24 was Ace Day. First flight winner was Dale Calhoon at net 70. Sharon Brown was second with an 80 and Pat Christenbury third with an 82. In the second flight, Sharon Deutsch took first at 74. Mary Tacea was second at 75 and Mary Dixon third at 86. Lois Huber was Ace of the Month and first in the third flight with a 65. Nancy Dickerson was second with a 73 and Kathy Koegel third with an 80. Birdies: Lois Huber at 2 and Kathy Koegel at 13.

Brierwood MGA
On May 10, playing one gross and one net ball, the winning team at -15 was Dan Perry, Bob Nobes, Gary McDaniels and Tom Kronyak. The team of Dave Harper, George Edwards, Ron Arvidson and Bernie Gruzlewski was second at -12.
On May 14, playing two best balls on front nine and three balls on back nine, winning the match at -25 was the team of Bernie Gruzlewski, Lester Craft, Chuck Hornfeck and Tom Kronyak. Second at -35 was the team of Dan Perry, Larry Boyer, Mike Prokop and Morris Hall.
On May 17, counting one ball on par 5s, two balls on par 4s and counting three balls on par 3s, the team of Chuck Hornfeck, Tom Kronyak and Ron Arvidson were first at -37. Second at -19 were George Edwards, Jim Pope and Bernie Gruzlewski.
On May 19, the men’s breakfast/lunch group played a two best ball match and the team of Wayne McGlothlin, Reggie FitzGerald, Paul Salerno and Morris Hall won at 32. Second at -30 were Bill Tonking, Al Bloom, Bernie Gruzlewski and Ron Arvidson. Third at -29 were Dave Harper, George Edwards, Gary McDaniels and a draw. Fourth at -28 were Hollen Groff, Al Ostrager, Dennis Shea and a draw.
On May 20, the scramble was won by the team of Mike Holesa, Walt Brennan, Morris Hall and Dee Bogard at 63. Second at 66 were R.J. McCord, Tina Tiepel, Nancy Kumlin and Hilda Hall. Third at 67 were Dan and Cheryl Perry and George and Ro Edwards. Fourth at 68 were Bonnie Allen, Bill Tonking, Bob Bailey and Bernie Gruzlewski. Closest to pin for ladies at 14 was Cheryl Perry and on 17 it was R.J. McCord; for the men on 14 it was Dan Perry and on 17 it was Paul Salerno.
On May 24, the team of Chuck Hornfeck, Les Craft, Tom Kronyak and Ron Arvidson won the Stableford match with a score of 138. In second at 135 was the team of Larry Boyer, Dave Harper, Paul Salerno and Harvey Hundley.

CFAG
On May 21 at Heather Glen, Pete Scott, Jen Dearborn and Joe Gallo placed first with a 147. The three-man teams scored a net and gross per hole. Steve Maiorca, Sid Pennington and Jody Sersensits were second.
On May 23 at Possum Trot, the teams were selected after golf by lot. Sid Pennington, Cliff Musselman, Joe Gallo and a draw placed first at -23. Members use their gross score minus handicap. Steve Maiorca, Jody Sersensits, Jim Kennedy and Bob Levan were second.
On Friday at Lion’s Paw, Jim Kennedy, Bob Levan, Karl Pettersen and Joe Gallo placed first with a 158. Format for the day was reverse cha-cha-cha with one gross required on each hole. In second was the team of Jerry Rubin, Ron Doeblin, Jody Serensits and John Ducey.

Calabash Elks
In the A flight May 23 at Carolina Shores, Russ Russo was first with a net 66. In the B flight, Ron O’Leary was first with a net 63. In the C flight, Don Eisenman and Bob Matteson had net 62s.
Closest to the pin: at 3, Butch Cretara and Bob Malone, 12 feet; at 7, John Owens, 6-0; at 12, Jim Beairsto, 12-0; at 17, Jim Beairsto, 9-0.

John Owens scores hole-in-one
On May 16 at Carolina Shores, John Owens aced the 110-yard seventh hole with a pitching wedge. The league rewarded him with a prize of $200.  

Calabash Tee-Birds
The Calabash Tee-Birds played their weekly Stableford match May 23 at Black Bear. First: Ken Anthony, Benny Bruno, Billy McCormick and Bobby Poulton at +7.5. Second: Andy Ward, Larry Clark, Don Fidura and Pat Perryman at +0.5. Third: Jack Goin, Greg Gallus, Rick Balweg and Lee Harrison at -2. Fourth at -3 were Rich Murray, Ed Grampietro, Bobby Hall and Jerry Zimmerman.

Carolina Shores Niners
In the Carolina Shores Niners tournament on May 17 in flight A, Violet Collins won gross and net. Second in gross in Flight A was a tie between Pat Herdic and Rose Mary Jones. Second in net was Rose Mary Jones. In flight B, Beverly Shaw won gross and net. Linda Pennington was second in both categories.
In the Carolina Shores tournament on May 24, Betty Kibblehouse was first in gross and Joan O’Neill was second in flight A. Joan O’Neill was first in net and Betty Kibblehouse and Rose Mary Jones tied for second. In flight B, Beverly Shaw was first in gross and Joyce Dunn and Linda Pennington tied for second. Beverly Shaw was first in net and Linda Pennington was second. Joan O’Neill made a birdie at No. 3.

Grand Strand SMGA
The Grand Strand Senior Men’s Golf Association played its weekly event May 21 at the William Byrd Course at Sea Trail Golf Resort. The format is stroke play with handicap and 110 golfers participated in six flights. A flight: John Stokley (79 gross), Bob Hanley (68 net). B flight: Curt Miel (78 gross), Mitch Jordan (69 net). C flight: Jerry Bykowski (82 gross), Jeff Adams (64 net). D flight: Gary Cohen (86 gross), Neil Clem (65 net). E flight: Dwight Christenbury (86 gross), Phil Evich (68 net). F flight: Dick Harper (98 gross), Ron Wetherington (71 net). Oxenfield qualifies for 2013 N.C. Senior Open
On May 17, Tom Oxenfeld, of Ocean Ridge Plantation, was among the 30 top players in the 2012 North Carolina Senior Amateur Championship, conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association at Oak Valley Golf Club. This finish gained him an exemption to the 2013 championship.

Courses played were Legacy Golf Links at Aberdeen and Mid South Golf Course at Southern Pines. Flight A: Mary Hedrick (110), Sharon Clark (113). Flight B: Lin Penta (112), Geri McTighe (120).
