Beachcombers
The Beachcombers played their first three-nets tournament of the new year on Friday at Cypress Bay. The winners with a score of 198 (-18) were Tom Culverwell, Bob Byrne, Roger Dunham and Gary Gutheil. In second at 201 (-15) were Jim Ritter, Sid Silver, Dan O’Connell and Paul Michal. Low gross was Sid Silver and Gary Gutheil, 86; Paul Hichal, 87; and Bob Byrne, 88. Low nets were Bob Byrne, 68, and Tom Culverwell and Paul Michal, 69. Tom Culverwell is golfer of the week.

Brierwood MGA
On Dec. 20, counting two best balls, the team of Len Henderson, Bob Janovic, Les Craft and a player by draw won with a score of -30. Second at -29 were George Edwards, Chuck Hornfeck, Ron Arvidson and Harvey Hundley.

CFAG
On Dec. 31 at Heather Glen, Pete Scott, Ned Meier, Von Hincher and a player by draw placed first. Teams scored a gross and net on the par 4s and the par 5s, two nets and a gross on the par 3s. Steve Maiorca, Sid Pennington, Cliff Musselman and a player by draw placed second.
On Jan. 2 at at Heather Glen, Sid Pennington, Tony Longquell, Von Hincher and Joe Gallo placed first at 156. Teams scored a gross and net per hole. Placing second were Jim Kennedy, Karl Pettersen, Steve Maiorca and John Ducey.
On Friday at Glen Dornoch, Steve Maiorca, Sid Pennington, Bob Jaeger, Ron Doeblin, John Tighee, Barry Vanvaunder and Joe Gallo placed first at 312. Carolina Shores
In the Carolina Shores tourney in flight A on Dec. 6,
Char Pietrondi was first in gross and Violet Collins was second. Nancy Harthausen was first in net and Violet Collins was second. In flight B, Beverly Shaw was first in gross and Joanne Riedel was second. Beverly Shaw and Joanne Riedel tied for first in net and Halla Cramer was second.
In the Carolina Shores tournament in flight A on Dec. 20, Virginia Ridinger was first in gross and Violet Collins and Ursula Moore were second. Violet Collins was first in net and Virginia Ridinger was second. In flight B, Beverly Shaw was first in gross and first in net. Halla Cramer was second in both. Game of the week was fewest putts. Susan Jarrell was first with 16 and Halla Cramer was second with 17.

CGA tourney
Top local finishers from the Carolinas Golf Association’s one-day Tournament of Champions played in December at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club (Course No. 5) in Pinehurst (men A played 6,640 yards; men B/senior men, 6,211 yards; super senior men, 5,709 yards; women, 5,248 yards). Par was 36-36—72. Tournament was open to first-place gross and net winners from the 2012 CGA one-day tournament season. In men A, Shawn Longfellow, Leland, tied for fourth at 37-39—76 (+4). In super senior men, Michael Mauney, Southport, tied for third at 38-42—80 (+8).
