Sea Cruz sails into Ocean Isle Beach on Friday

The season for summer concerts and movies is under way at the beach and beyond. Brunswick County’s free concert and movie series is set for the spring-into-summer season for 2013.

New this year is a Thursday series in Calabash, where concerts will take place on Thomasboro Road and movies shown in the town’s new Calabash Community Park at the corner of Persimmon Road and Traders Lane.

More of the series is in store in Ocean Isle Beach, Shallotte, Holden Beach, Sunset Beach, Leland and Southport.

Here’s the lowdown (and schedule) of places and events coming up this week.

Ocean Isle Beach

Concerts start at 6:30 p.m. Fridays at the Museum of Coastal Carolina parking lot, accepting cash donations for local food pantries. Sea Cruz performs June 21.

Shallotte

Summerfest in the Garden concerts start at 7 p.m. in Rourk Garden on Main Street across from Jerome’s Steak and Seafood. Movies start at dusk. Carolina Breakers perform Thursday, June 27.

Holden Beach

Concerts start at 6:30 p.m. Sundays at the pavilion at the end of Jordan Boulevard under the Holden Beach Bridge. Brickhouse performs June 23.

Sunset Beach

Concerts are from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays in the gazebo in Village Park, Queen Anne Street. Ginger Thompson performs June 26.

Calabash

Concerts are at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays at 1572 Thomasboro Road. Movies start at dusk Thursdays in Calabash Town Park, 868 Persimmon Road. Homemade Jam Band performs July 11. The movie “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” will be shown July 18.

Leland

Concerts start at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays and movies at dusk Saturdays in Leland Municipal Park behind town hall. Gold Rush performs June 27. The movie “Madagascar 3” will be shown June 29.

Southport

Jimmy Buffet-style music will be performed at 6 p.m. July 12 at Garrison House on Davison Street.

 

 

Waterfront movies start at dusk Fridays. “The Pirates Band of Misfits” will be shown June 14.
