Severe weather is expected in Brunswick County throughout the day Wednesday.
A tornado watch is effect until 5 p.m.
A tornado warning was issued for Brunswick County, near Southport, just before 9:45 a.m. Wednesday. The warning expired around 10:15 a.m.
Just before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the county. Winds could exceed 60 mph. The first storm was reported just south of Southport and was moving northeast.
As a front moves through the area Wednesday, more severe thunderstorms may develop. Some of them may be capable of producing tornadoes.
Once the storm system clears, cooler weather is expected throughout the rest of the week with highs reaching only the low 50s Thursday and Friday. Lows may be at or near freezing at night.
