SHALLOTTE—A local fireman was charged with DWI on Monday, July 30.
According to Highway Patrol Sgt. C.K. Parks, Richard “Rick” Paul Savage, deputy chief of the Shallotte Fire Department, was stopped on N.C. 179 near Ocean Isle Beach around 11:18 p.m. Savage, 53, was stopped after a “trooper observed him run off the road.”
When the trooper approached the vehicle, Savage was chewing gum and there was a “strong odor of alcohol. He was mush mouth (slurred) speech and very nervous.”
