Sheriff’s Corner: New Year safety reminder

By the time everyone sees this message, Christmas will be over and New Years will be just a few days away.

Please keep in mind a lot of people will be traveling all over going to events and parties to celebrate the evening.

The most important thing that is always a concern is, “Don’t drink and drive.” If you are at a party or a function and are drinking, get someone to take you home. Better yet, have a designated driver already pre-arranged.

Every year on this day throughout the state and the country, people die or are seriously hurt in car wrecks, which are alcohol-related. It just takes a moment to call for a taxicab or to get someone else to drive who hasn’t been drinking.

Your decision at that moment in time may be the most important decision you have ever made.

We, here at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, as well as all of the law enforcement agencies across the country, cannot emphasize enough the importance of not drinking and driving.
