The Shallotte Shock U12 girls’ soccer team won its opening playoff game Saturday 2-1 against Pleasure Island Soccer Association The Shock scored its goals off corner kicks.
Hayley Giordano sent the first kick high over many defenders and into the center of the goal box and Greer Josselyn ran in and redirected the ball off her body and into the goal.
On the second corner kick, Giordano again sent a kick directly across the goal and this time Mia Adcock came running into the box and had the ball hit off her chest and into the goal.
“They were both great kicks by Hayley and great aggressive play by Mia and Greer,” coach Mark Giordano said.
After getting a two-goal lead, the Shock went into a defensive mode. Amity Croft, Leah McDonald, Hope Simmons and Nicole Gibbs along with goalkeepers Kayla Crouch and Joi Sturdivant once again held their opponent to only one goal scored.
The Shock look to bring their second championship to it sponsor, Brush Dental Care, Jeffery T Mintz DDS, on Saturday.
