Silver Coast Winery wins wine competition

-A A +A

Silver Coast Winery’s 2008 Cabernet Franc, produced from grapes grown in North Carolina and 2007 Touriga, an earthy, Bordeaux-style red wine, each took a bronze medal in the 11th annual Finger Lakes International Wine Competition March 26-27 at the Rochester Plaza Hotel in Rochester, N.Y.

Since it’s opening in 2002, this brings Silver Coast’s total medals to 252 international awards for Brunswick County’s only winery.

Dubbed as North America’s largest charitable wine competition, it had a record-breaking year with 3,259 wines from 788 wineries entered.

The wines came from 19 nations, six Canadian provinces and all 50 states.

Proceeds from the competition and a gala dinner in May benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times, dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families battling cancer.

Silver Coast Winery is a full winemaking facility housing an art gallery, gift shops and picnic grounds.

Tours and tastings are available January and February from noon-5 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday and Fridays until 6 p.m. and March through December from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday.
