Belinda Faye Simmons of Varnamtown and the Rev. Stephen Allen “Sweets” Raleigh of Bolivia were married April 16, 2011, at Faith Community Chapel in Sunset Harbor. The Rev. Robert Lee Simmons, father of the bride, officiated the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of the Rev. Robert and Linda Simmons of Varnamtown and granddaughter of Eva Mae Smith of Ash and the late James Edward Smith, the late Lindsey and Joyce Simmons of Supply and adopted granddaughter of Earlene Atkinson of Supply.
She was given in marriage by her parents.
The groom is the son of Jack Raleigh of Winnabow and the late Joyce Maggard and grandson of Nellie Maggard of Bolivia and the late James Maggard, and the late Denver and Callie Raleigh of Partridge, Ky.
The bride wore a white ballroom wedding gown with sequins, pearls and beads, fitted bodice and a scalloped two-tiered cathedral train veil with Swarovski crystals and beading that matched the dress and a crystal rhinestone tiara. She carried a bouquet of light pink and light blue artificial long-stemmed roses adorned with pink pearls and a blue and pink polka-dot bow around the stems. All bouquets were made by the bride and her mother.
Melinda Simmons of Varnamtown, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. She wore a blue and white floral print sundress.
Bridesmaids were Emilie Raleigh of Dobson, niece of the groom, and Donna Benton Kurvers of Winnabow, friend of the bride. They wore blue and white floral print sundresses.
Flower girl was Brooke Robinson. Ringbearers were Seth Clewis and Cade Kurvers.
Best man was Brian Raleigh of Bolivia, brother of the groom.
Groomsmen were Jacob Raleigh of Bolivia, nephew of the groom, and Brandon Raleigh of Winnabow, brother of the groom.
Ushers were Lynn Gause of Shallotte, friend of the bride, and Ronald Maggard of Bolivia, uncle of the groom.
A reception followed at Faith Community Chapel in Sunset Harbor.
The bride is a 2000 graduate of WBHS in Shallotte and a 2003 graduate of UNCW. She is currently a first-grade teacher at Town Creek Elementary in Winnabow.
The groom is a 1992 graduate of SBHS in Southport. He is employed as a longshoreman at ILA 1968 in Southport.
Following a honeymoon in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. and the North Carolina Mountains, the couple now resides in Varnamtown.
