Celebrate the harvest-and-Halloween season and help homeless animals at the same time.
Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue is having its third annual Harvest Fest from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.
Highlights include costumes, trick-or-treat, a silent auction, games and prizes, foods and drinks, a bake sale, a 50/50 raffle and door prizes.
SOAR is at 3376 St. Charles Place off Long Beach Road (N.C. 133).
To get there from U.S. 17, take N.C. 211 for 14 miles toward Southport. Turn right onto N.C. 133 and go 1.3 miles to Airport Road/Villa Nova Loop on the right. Go 2 miles, then hang a left onto St. Charles Place to reach the SOAR grounds.

SOAR is a nonprofit, no-kill animal rescue shelter. It accommodates homeless, lost, abandoned, and injured dogs and cats. SOAR provides food, shelter, medical treatment, and daily care for its animals. SOAR is open to the public from 10 a.m.-
2 p.m. Saturdays and is always in need of volunteers. To get there, from the intersection of N.C. 211 and N.C. 133 head toward Oak Island for 1.5 miles.
