South Brunswick beats Pender 6-0, stays perfect in conference

BOILING SPRING LAKES—The South Brunswick girls’ soccer team remained unbeaten in the Waccamaw Conference by beating Pender 6-0 April 22.


The Cougars beat the Patriots 8-0 April 8, but in the first half of the rematch Pender put more pressure on the South defense and goalkeeper Elizabeth Butler, who made several saves.

South finally scored 11 minutes into the game on a 20-yard shot by junior Kayla Carmichael. Just before the half ended, junior Ashley Briggs scored. Junior Ann Burton had the assist.

Carmichael scored the first of the Cougars’ four second-half goals with 28 minutes left. In the box, Carmichael faked a defender, regained control of the ball and kicked it past the Pender goalkeeper. Sophomore Gabby Alcorn had the assist.

Four minutes later, Briggs scored on a shot from a severe angle.

Alcorn put South ahead 5-0 with 12 minutes left. Carmichael had the assist.
