Southport Elementary teacher takes dive for students

Most teachers get apples or nice coffee mugs during Teacher Appreciation Week, but on Sunday, one Southport Elementary teacher got the thrill of a lifetime.

Skydive Coastal Carolinas donated a gift certificate for a tandem skydive for Teachers Appreciation Week. All interested teachers at the school were invited to enter their names into a drawing for the certificate.

“Three brave souls put their names in,” said Kimberly Newman, a second-grade teacher. Newman won the drawing.
