A Southport man was sentenced to serve more than a year in prison after pleading guilty to incest July 8.

Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Ola Lewis sentenced 55-year-old Rodney Lee Outlaw to between 13 and 16 months in the North Carolina Department of Correction, Brunswick County Clerk of Courts records show. Outlaw received credit for 348 days of jail time served following his arrest.

Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Outlaw in July 2013 and charged him with two counts of indecent liberties with a child stemming from incidents that happened between March 2012 and March 2013, as well as January 2003.

In a separate incident, Outlaw was charged with two counts of statutory rape with a 15-year-old girl.

Outlaw was indicted on all charges in October, but the charges were dropped as part of his plea deal.

Assistant District Attorney Cathi Radford did not return phone calls seeking comment on the case.

Outlaw is required to register on the state Sex Offender Registry, where his name will remain for 30 years.
