BOLIVIA—The Brunswick County Board of Education was nearly split last week when deciding if it would enter into an agreement with Communities in Schools of Brunswick County Inc. for a partnership in a $1 million grant application. The grant does not require the school board to match any funds.
Patsy Thrift, CIS program operations officer, said the four-year grant would provide at-risk students at Cedar Grove, Shallotte and Leland middle schools an after-school program using science, health and fitness initiatives.
