FREE SOFTBALL CLINICS AT WEST
West Brunswick High School softball coach Joe Noble and his staff will conduct free softball clinics for girls 13 and younger. The clinics will take place 5:30-6:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays at the West softball field. Please contact Noble at 443-1138 if you plan to attend.
BASKETBALL COACHES NEEDED
The Brunswick County Youth Basketball League needs coaches. Applications are due by Nov. 11. Practices begin Dec. 1. Games are each Saturday in January and February. Background checks are conducted on all volunteers. See www.brunsco.net for applications. Call Brian Moore at 253-2682 or 253-2676.
5K RUN NOV. 19 AT HOLDEN BEACH
A free 5K run will take place at 9 a.m. Nov. 19 at Holden Beach. Nick Westfall, a physical education teacher at Virginia Williamson Elementary School, is organizing the 3.1-mile run. The race is for all ages. Prizes will be given not only to the winners but to those chosen at random, Westfall said. One of the prizes offered is free membership to the Brunswick Community College Fitness & Aquatics Center. Volunteers are needed. CHEER AND DANCE EVENT DEC. 18 AT BCC
The Spirit Classic Cheer and Dance Competition will take place 1-5 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center. The Following counties have been invited to participate: Brunswick, Robeson, Bladen, Pender, Columbus, New Hanover, Horry. There will be a middle school division along with high school junior varsity and varsity.
Trophies will be awarded to the first- and second-place winners and they will be invited to perform at halftime for a Brunswick Community College home basketball game. Elementary school dance teams will be invited to perform at the competition. Participant fee is $20; spectator fee, $5.
