Dixie annual meeting Jan. 2
Shallotte Dixie Youth Baseball and Softball will have their annual spring meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 2 at Shallotte First Baptist Church, 4486 Main St., to discuss all new business for the coming 2012 season. Officers for the coming season will be elected. Coaches, parents and interested parties are encouraged to attend.

Dixie registrations
Registration is open for the 2012 Dixie Boys Baseball and the 2012 Dixie Belles and Debs Softball programs. Both programs are for boys and girls 13-15. Registration deadline for Dixie Belles and Debs is Feb. 24 and the deadline for Dixie Boys is March 2.
Registration fee is $50 for both programs. For more information, call (910) 253-2670. Registration forms may be picked up at in Bolivia at the Government Complex, Building M, or you can get one online at www.brunswickcountync.gov (youth athletics page).

SilverSneakers offered at Gore Fitness Center
SilverSneakers is now offered at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center at Brunswick Community College. SilverSneakers is a program that helps older adults take greater control of their health by encouraging physical activity and offering social events. SilverSneakers is a benefit offered to members of many Medicare plans across the U.S. If you are part of a Medicare health plan or if you are a group retiree, you may already have the SilverSneakers benefit. Eligible participants receive a free membership to the Fitness & Aquatics Center. Other benefits include:
•Customized SilverSneakers classes designed exclusively for older adults who want to improve their strength, flexibility, balance and endurance.
•Assistance from specially trained staff to begin an exercise routine and get familiar with exercise equipment.
•Health education seminars and other events that promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
•Member-only access to online support that can help you lose weight, quit smoking or reduce your stress.
