Fight cancer May 6-7 at BCC
Swim, bike, run or walk and raise funds at the same time for the Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society May 6-7 at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness and Aquatics Center. The registration fee is $7 or members, $10 for non-members and $5 for those 17 or younger. The fee covers team T-shirt and refreshments. For more information, call (910) 846-2348.
Youth Tennis Tournament May 7
St. James Founders Club will be the site of the second youth tennis tournament of the year on May 7. The tourney is open to middle school and high school students. Singles and doubles contests will be played with high school and middle school divisions. Doubles players are asked to provide their own partners. The cost is $10 for a single event, $5 for additional events. The cost covers T-shirts. There is a late registration fee of $5 for sign-ups after May 1. There will be a pizza lunch. Youth football, cheerleading registration
Registration is open for the youth football program and the youth football cheerleading squads. Registration forms are available online under youth athletics or call 253-2670 to have one mailed to you. If you would like to volunteer to become a cheerleading coach, contact Ruthie McHugh at 253-2583. Deadline for registration is July 31. Each of the 12 teams is limited to the first 35 players/cheerleaders registered. Fee is $50; after July 31, $65.
BCTA Quick Start Tennis
Quick Start tennis for those ages 5-10 is at Ocean Isle Beach Park, Smithville Park, and Town Creek Park. Registration fee is $15 and cover the use of a racket, balls and T-shirt. Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Department is offering men’s softball leagues. The leagues play a regular-season schedule followed by a double-elimination tournament. The season starts early August. Team registration fees are $500. Teams will play on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings at Lockwood Folly, Shallotte Park or Smithville Park. Two divisions of play may be offered based on level of competition. A league managers meeting is 6:30 p.m. July 15 on the second-floor training room of the Administration Building in Bolivia.
