Zumbathon is April 26 at BCC
Brunswick Community College student-athletes will host a Zumbathon from 6-8 p.m. April 26 to help raise money for the 2012 Relay for Life. The Zumbathon will be a $10 donation and will be on campus at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness and Aquatics Center.
Adult men’s, women’s softball
Accepting registrations for the men’s softball league May 16-July 18. The season starts in early August. Teams may play on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings at Lockwood Folly, Shallotte or Smithville Park.

Coed softball registration
Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for the 2012 coed softball leagues. Team registration fees are $500. Teams will play on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings at Lockwood Folly Park, Shallotte Park or Smithville Park. The league managers’ meeting is 6:30 p.m. May 10 at the Parks and Recreation Building in the second floor conference room. For more information, call Aaron Perkins at 253-2670 or email@example.com.
Racquet Relay April 13
The St. James Tennis Association is sponsoring a 12-hour Racquet Relay from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. April 11 at the St. James Founders courts. The rain date is April 13 at the same time and place. This event is open for either doubles or singles, and there is a minimum of $10/hour/person contribution requested for doubles or $20/hour/person for singles play. The event is non-competitive, so any combination of skills, genders or age categories is encouraged. Sign up at the St. James tennis pro shop 253-3008, ext. 6.
Oak Island Lighthouse Run adds half marathon
Oak Island Lighthouse Run will add a half marathon to the April 21 event. All runs will begin and end at the N.C. Baptist Assembly at Fort Caswell. Entry fee is $25 per person for the 5k or 10k and $40 pre-register, $45 race day, for the half marathon. BCTA Junior Tennis Club
The BCTA Junior Tennis Club, for those in the sixth through eighth grades, meets 4:30-5:30 p.m. April 24-May 31.Registration fee is $10. Race April 28 benefits Girls on the Run
The Naberdodge.com 5K Run is set for 8 a.m. April 28 at Ocean Isle Beach. The race, on East First Street and East Second Street between Monroe Street and Raleigh Street, benefits the Girls on the Run, Girls on Track and Stride programs in Brunswick County. The fee for the race, presented by the Rotary Clubs of Brunswick County, is $25 until April 19, $30 April 20-26 and $35 on race day. Register at SPORToften.com (keyword is GOTR and STRIDE 5K).
Swim programs at Gore Aquatics Center
The Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center at Brunswick Community College offers a variety of American Red Cross Programs throughout the year. Coming this spring the Aquatics Center is offering learn to swim lifeguarding and water safety instructor courses.
The learn-to-swim program offers swim lesson opportunities those ages 6 months through adult. Spring II session: April 23-June 4.
Learn to be a certified lifeguard or update your lifeguard certifications in the lifeguarding and lifeguard recertification courses: 5:30-6:30 p.m. June 5, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. June 11-14; recertification April 13, April 17 or April 19.
