Brunswick County Parks and Recreation is offering the following programs:
Coed volleyball program
Open play volleyball for those 55 or older is
10:15 a.m.-noon every Monday at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center on the Brunswick Community College Campus. Free. All skill levels welcome. Call 253-2677 for more information.
Silver paddles
Open play table tennis for those 50 or older is
1-3 p.m. every Tuesday at the Brunswick Center at Southport. Free. All skill levels welcome. Call 454-0583 or 253-2677 for more information.
SilverSneakers
SilverSneakers is a program that helps adults 65 or older take greater control of their health by encouraging physical activity and offering social events. If you are part of a Medicare health plan or if you are a group retiree, this program may be covered by your plan.

Brunswick County Gator Senior Games
Registration is open for the 2013 Gator Senior Games and SilverArts Program, set for April 3-
May 10. This is friendly competition covering 80 athletics events. SilverArts includes all heritage, literary, visual and performing arts.
The program is for participants 55 or older. Registration includes senior games T-shirt. Deadline to register is March 6. This program is co-sponsored by Brunswick County Parks and Recreation, Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center, Rich Tours Travel and Brunswick Senior Resources Inc. Brunswick County Gator and Gatorettes
The Gator and Gatorettes 55 and older cheerleading team is accepting new members. Team is open to men and women residents of Brunswick County. Team practices weekly and performs throughout the area and competes in local and state competition. Orientation meeting is 1 p.m.

Champion Youth Outreach—Youth Karate
Classes for youth karate are Thursdays Jan. 24-May 23 at the 5th District Building, Room 4, Leland. Registration is 30 minutes before class on Jan. 24. Class for new students is 6-6:45 p.m. Class for returning students is 6:45-7:30 p.m. Fee: $7 per week plus a one-time registration fee: $8. For more information, call (877) 313-6893.
Dance lessons
Brunswick County Parks and Recreation is offering dance lessons. These are the classes: Dance Like a Star for couples, square dancing and shag dancing. All begin in January except Dance Like a Star, which begins in February. Call 253-2583 for dates, sites and fees.
Couch to 5K fitness program
Starting in January, Brunswick County Parks and Recreation will offer a New Year fitness program to focus on increasing/maintaining your physical activity. Training is nine weeks beginning on Jan. 14 to complete your goal of participating in the Lucky Leprechaun 5K on March 16 at the Winds Beach Resort in Ocean Isle Beach.
There will be weekly raffle prizes and training programs to help you complete your goal. Choose from the beginner program, walking program, or the walking/jogging program based on your skill level. Contact Ruthie McHugh at 253-2583 or email rmchugh@brunsco.net.
Women’s weight-loss program
Brunswick County Parks and Recreation is offering a 16-week behavioral weight- loss program for women ages 18-64 with a BMI of 27 or higher. Classes will meet weekly 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays Jan. 22-
April 9 at South Brunswick Island Center or Thursdays Jan. 24-April 11 at Bolivia Government Complex. Cost is $65 per person. Mandatory private consultation required by Jan. 18. Call Ruthie McHugh for more information or to register at 253-2583 or email rmchugh@brunsco.net.
Dixie Baseball and Softball
Dixie Boys Baseball, Dixie Belles, Debs Softball and Pre-Majors registration lasts until March 2. Registration fee is $50. Program is for girls 13-19 and boys 13-15 years old. Call 253-2670 for more information.
