St. James Service Club kicks off New Year

-A A +A

The St. James Service Club has begun the New Year with its record-breaking Membership Meeting and Volunteer Fair.

On Jan. 12, more than 240 people attended the club’s first meeting at the new community center. The January meeting is devoted to registering new members and sharing information about upcoming fundraising programs.

Following the meeting, the Volunteer Fair kicked into gear, with each fundraising committee soliciting help for all of the events planned for 2011.

The club has two large events, which are open to all neighboring communities.

Its annual flea market, which will be April 30 at Brunswick Community College, provides funds for the club’s scholarship program for both college-bound high school students in Brunswick County as well as current nursing students at Brunswick Community College.

The club is also planning a plant sale on May 14 at the community center.

The public is invited to both events, with more details to follow soon.

The St. James Service Club Inc. is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to identifying and supporting the needs of local communities through volunteer participation and fundraising.

To date, the St. James Service Club has raised more than $846,000, which has been donated to local nonprofit organizations.
