Student wins essay contest

Caleb Saunders, who attends the Academy of Coastal Carolina, is the winner of this year’s Brunswick County Republican Women’s Americanism essay contest and he will be honored at the club’s annual luncheon on June 11. The topic of his essay was “What the U.S. Flag Means to Me.”

Honorable mention went to Callie Holland, Hannah A. Nazzaro, Aaron Norton and Thomas Welch.

The Brunswick County Republican Women thanks all the students that participated and their schools, including: Evelyn Smith Wray Village School in Shallotte; Academy of Coastal Carolina in Shallotte;   L & L Montessori School in Southport; South Brunswick Middle School in Southport; and Leland Middle School in Leland.

The objectives of the Brunswick County Republican Women’s Club are to inform the public through political education, to increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government through active political participation, and to promote Republican Party principles and candidates.
