More than 5,000 students, including 13 from Brunswick County, earned bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral or professional degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill during the rain-shortened May 11 commencement ceremony.
Chancellor James Moeser conferred the degrees of the undergraduates, who were led in the traditional turning of their mortarboard tassels by Senior Class President Ashley Shores.
The following Brunswick County students earned their degrees:
Erica Stacy Babson of Ash, B.S. in biology; Jennifer G. Butz of Winnabow, B.S. in nursing; Evan Edward Carroll of Shallotte, B.S. in information science; Michael Thomas Clemmons of Oak Island, B.A. in physics; Jasmine Danielle Crooms of Winnabow, B.A. in communication studies; Melanie Arlene Goforth of Southport, B.S. in biology; Laura Pesci Kincer of Southport, B.S. in biology; Cammie Thompson Morris of Oak Island, Doctor of Dental Surgery; Audrey Elizabeth Peck of Holden Beach, B.A. in mathematics; Robert Johnsey Peterson of Leland, B.A. in history; Jennifer Kathleen Polomis of Shallotte, B.S. in nursing; Justin Joseph Reeb of Leland, B.A. in exercise and sport science; and Meredith Chaison Skillman of Southport, B.A. in art history.
In addition, more than 6,000 Carolina students were recognized for outstanding academic achievement through their selection for the dean’s list for spring 2008.
Students are eligible for the list if they earn at least a 3.2 grade-point-average on a 4.0 scale while taking 15 or more letter-grade credit hours. They are also eligible if they earn a 3.5 grade-point-average while taking at least 12 letter-grade credit hours.
