Community news policy
Community news items — including religion, education, club and business briefs — must be submitted with or without photos no later than noon Thursday to be considered for publication in the next week’s edition.
These items are published according to timeliness, the order in which they are received and depending on the amount of space available for them in each edition.
Items should answer the five W’s — who, what, where, when and why — and will be edited for spelling, grammar, clarity and content.
They can be hand-delivered at the Beacon, 208 Smith Ave., Shallotte, or submitted by clicking the “Submit News” button at the top of brunswickbeacon.com; by mail to The Brunswick Beacon, Attn: Community News, P.O. Box 2558, Shallotte, NC 28459; or by email to email@example.com.
When submitting by email, cut and paste the text of the item into the body of the email or attach it in a Word document.
Photos submitted by email should be in .jpg format.
Please remember to include contact information with each item, no matter how it is submitted.
Publication is not guaranteed.
Letters to the editor policy
The Beacon welcomes letters to the editor on topics of general interest.
All letters must bear the name and town of residence of the writer and include his or her daytime telephone number and email address (if available). The telephone number and email address will be used for verification and clarification, if necessary, and will not be published.
Letters submitted by organizations must include the signature of their leader or another officer.
Non-Brunswick County residents are asked to state their connection to this area in their letters.
Public officials who submit a letter to the editor must clarify whether they are submitting it on behalf of the organization with which they are affiliated.
Letters should be brief and to the point, not exceeding 300 words.
In all cases, the managing editor reserves the right to edit letters for space, grammar, style, clarity and content. The managing editor also reserves the right to reject any letter — in whole or in part — including those determined potentially libelous.
Only one letter per writer will be considered for publication per month.
Mass-produced or form letters will not be published.
Unsigned or anonymous letters will be rejected.
All letters should be received by noon Monday for consideration in each week’s edition.
Address Letters to Editor, The Brunswick Beacon, P.O. Box 2558, Shallotte, NC 28459 or send them via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The body of the letter can be contained in an email or in an attached Word document; no .jpgs, PDFs or other formats are accepted.
