The River’s Edge Sundowners, residents of the River’s Edge community, are sponsoring a fashion show to benefit the Brunswick County Relay for Life from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, April l9, at Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash.
Fashions are from Victoria’s Ragpatch and the Calabash Garden Tea Room will cater an elegant box lunch. In addition, there will be raffle items and door prizes donated by many of the local merchants.
Tickets are $45 each and can be purchased at the following businesses: Victoria’s Ragpatch and Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash and Victoria’s Ragpatch and Island Classics in Ocean Isle Beach. All money raised will be donated to Brunswick County Relay for Life through the River’s Edge Sundowners team.
Relay for Life helps communities across the globe to celebrate the lives of people that have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease.
This year’s Relay for Life event in Brunswick County will take place on May 4 at West Brunswick High School in Shallotte. Relay for Life events are conducted in every state in America and many countries around the world, including 70 counties in North Carolina.
Diane Quackenbush, fashion show chair, reports last year was the first year the River’s Edge community participated in Relay for Life. A fundraiser was not conducted, but donations from the community were sought. The goal in 2011 was to raise $1.500. The community rallied and donated $5,000 to the Brunswick County Relay for Life event.
“The goal this year for the River’s Edge Sundowners Relay for Life team is to raise $6,000,” Quackenbush said.
