Sunset Beach administrator gets good review, raise

-A A +A

SUNSET BEACH—On his fifth anniversary with the town, Sunset Beach Town Administrator Gary Parker has received a favorable review along with a 1 percent merit raise.

The decision came following a closed session of Sunset Beach Town Council at the end of its Dec. 11 meeting.

The raise increases Parker’s annual salary to $116,195.04.

Parker, 65, has been employed by the town in its top staff position since December 2007, when he came on board from years of previous town- and city-management experience in Fort Myers Beach, Fla., as well as Archdale, Stanley, and Holden Beach in North Carolina.

In Sunset Beach, Parker filled a vacancy left by longtime town administrator Linda Fluegel upon her retirement.

Last year, Parker announced tentative plans for his own retirement sometime this year.

Both he and town clerk Lisa Anglin confirmed Wednesday that plan is still tentatively set for late 2013. It will be discussed in greater detail during town council’s upcoming, annual day-long budget retreat scheduled for Feb. 19 at Sea Trail.
