Sunset Beach annual retreat Tuesday

Sunset Beach Town Council will convene for its annual all-day retreat work session at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, in the Heron Room at Sea Trail Resort and Conference Center, 211 Clubhouse Road in Sunset Beach.

The session begins with breakfast for governing body and staff, followed by a welcome by Sunset Beach Mayor Ron Watts.

Scheduled agenda items include beach safety topics and project updates by town building inspections director Sandy Wood on streetscape, the town park and the roundabout.

Town administrator Susan Parker will present reviews on the town’s capital improvement plan and asset replacement costs/ life expectancy schedule. Town staff will also review a resurfacing schedule for roads and sidewalks.

Following a 10 a.m. break, the agenda calls for summarization of the Sunset Boulevard and bike/pedestrian path plans. The Sunset Beach Planning Board will join council for these discussions.

Parker, staff and CAMA representative Holley Snider will lead discussion on canal dredging.

Following a noon lunch break, scheduled afternoon agenda items include review of a town hall space/parking report and discussion of “longer-term issues” and staffing needs of individual town departments.

Following a 3 p.m. break, discussion will follow on general issues for future consideration, including Angels Trace Road, beach nourishment (terminal groin baseline/ projects; funding threats/issues) and the "fire department and county."

Watts will lead discussion on establishing advisory committees, to be followed by council priorities, then public comments.

The draft vision plan is a large document and might be difficult to download, according to town clerk Lisa Anglin. The vision plan is also available for review at town hall.
