Police have recovered most of an estimated $37,300 worth of jewelry stolen last month from a local residence.
A gold and diamond necklace valued at $15,000 is the only item still missing, Sunset Beach deputy police chief Steve Smith said Monday.
A suspect told police the necklace was sold to an area pawn shop following the felony larceny reported Feb. 22 at a home on West Shoreline Drive.
Police were unable to locate the item at the pawn shop, where it apparently had already been sold. Smith said pawn shops are not required to keep records of people involved in their business dealings.
The suspect was not arrested because the victims did not want to press charges, Smith said.
Police also investigated a wreck last week on the Sunset Beach island.
A Coca-Cola Bottling Co. truck ran over a telephone box at the Island Market on Sunset Boulevard on Friday, March 7, Smith said.
