Sunset Beach police investigate Food Lion food theft

Sunset Beach police are investigating a food theft reported Jan. 6 at Food Lion.

Unknown subjects were seen fleeing the store with food items.

The items were dropped in the parking lot and near a local convenience store. All items were located, however, they cannot be put back on the shelf and are a complete loss, Sunset Beach Detective Joe Smith said.

The suspects were able to get away, but evidence to their identity was obtained and the incident is under further investigation.

Other incidents:

A ladies pocketbook and its contents were reported stolen Jan. 5 following a breaking-and/or-entering of a motor vehicle and larceny from an unlocked motor vehicle on Oyster Bay Drive.

A flat-screen television was reported stolen Jan. 5 in a breaking-and-entering and larceny at an address on East Main Street. The house was last known to be secure in early October. There was no evidence of forced entry.
