Investigators have identified the 17-year-old whose body was found in the Shallotte River as Silas Oller of Sunset Beach.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office received a call about noon Sunday, April 5, that Oller was missing, according to a news release issued Monday, April 6. The sheriff’s office helicopter, Air One, located Oller’s body in the river about two hours later.

Members of the Coastline Volunteer Rescue Squad, Brunswick County Emergency Services, Civietown, Tri-Beach and Shallotte Point fire departments all responded to the River Landing area of Shell Point, where Oller was believed to have gone missing, Coastline Volunteer Rescue Squad member David Robinson said.

Robinson said Oller’s body was found near Chadwick Landing Drive.

Investigators think Oller, of Pine Bur Circle, fell from a private dock and his death appears to be accidental, according to the sheriff’s office news release. The investigation continues and an autopsy is pending.
