Shallotte Police on Monday night arrested a Supply man for stealing a gun, kidnapping an elderly woman and stealing her vehicle Monday morning at Walmart.

Members of the Sunset Beach Police and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the arrest.

According to Shallotte Police Det. Eric King, Anthony Wade McKeithan, 28, was dropped off at the Shallotte Walmart. He then attempted to leave the store with stolen dog food and tried to hotwire a truck. When that was unsuccessful, he stole a .22-caliber pistol from the truck’s owner, crossed the parking lot and pulled the gun on an elderly woman loading groceries into her car.

Wade then allegedly forced her into the car, stole $60 from her and dropped her in front of a church on Gray Bridge Road.

The woman beat on the door of a nearby house and reported the incident to the police.

King said he alerted task force members from the Sunset Beach Police Department and Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office of the wanted man, giving them a description of the car and the suspect based on surveillance tapes from Walmart.

That night, King received a tip from someone at the Minute Man convenience store in Sunset Beach saying someone driving a car matching the description had just left and was heading toward Bo-Tuck Road.

Sunset Beach Police secured the area, and King and other officers arrived at a house on Bo-Tuck Road where the car was parked. King asked the person who answered the door about the car, and after some hesitation, McKeithan came out and made a full confession.

Shallotte police charged McKeithan with seven felonies: armed robbery, auto larceny, kidnapping, felony breaking and entering an automobile, larceny of a firearm from a motor vehicle and possession of a firearm by a felon.

He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center and placed on a $225,000 secured bond.
