To the editor: With all the negative publicity Shallotte Middle School has received, I was considering sending my child to a private school. Not wanting to separate her from friends, I decided to give it a try, while keeping the private schools on the back burner.
Although we are only four months into the school year, I am pleased with my child’s repertoire of teachers.
Mr. William Hughes, Ms. Michelle Bennett, Ms. Karen Atkinson and Mr. Daniel Richardson are among some of the best teachers she has ever had. She is in the AIG program and she is maintaining straight A’s.
She recently gave a band performance at Odell Williamson under the direction of Michelle Farmer and Lauren Sacamano. After only three months of instruction, we were thrilled with the performance. They sounded wonderful.
My daughter had one incident with another child that had to be reported to the principal, Paul Price. The matter was handled immediately to our satisfaction, and we were relieved to be treated with complete understanding and cooperation.
With a new principal and a great staff, I’d sure like to see the negative publicity end regarding Shallotte Middle School. In our case, none of it rings true.
