Ashley High School beat South Brunswick 5-2 to win the inaugural South Coast Classic Invitational tennis tournament Saturday at the Ocean Isle Beach Park Tennis Center.
“Eight teams from seven schools played three terrific rounds of tennis over the course of two days,” South coach John Walls said.
The Coastal Christian Centurions finished third. Garner Magnet High School finished fourth, St. James High School fifth, Georgetown High School sixth, West Brunswick High School seventh and the South Brunswick B team eighth. (Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School pulled out of the tournament, so South Brunswick played its junior varsity in its place.)
“All teams in the tournament should be commended for their outstanding effort,” Walls said.
Four players from South Brunswick and one player from West Brunswick made the all-tourney team. From the South Brunswick varsity, Caleb Stanley, Noah Pieper, Joey Kronenwetter made all-tourney. From the South B team, Deon Graham made all-tourney. From West Brunswick, Jason Watts made all-tourney.
Other all-tourney members: Matt Harris, Ethan Tello, Robert Penn and Christopher Dorn from Ashley; Richard Wetherill and Austin Diggs from Coastal Christian; Joseph Graham and Collin Simpson from Garner; Jeffery Dayton and Hayden Zemke from St. James; Ben Wilkins from Georgetown.
