A brief tornado touched ground in a four-block area near Holden Beach Road in Supply on Sunday, Sept. 22.
The tornado touched down on Lafayette Street, just north of Holden Beach Road, between 4:39 and 4:40 a.m., said Tim Armstrong of the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Meteorologists estimate the winds approached 65 mph.
Armstrong said the twister crossed McLamb Avenue and Lakeside Drive before lifting over a small retention pond. The windstorm lasted about a minute.
