UPDATE: All Brunswick County Schools after-school activities scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 2, have been cancelled. The JV football game scheduled for Thursday night has been canceled and rescheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday. The varsity football game is still on schedule for Friday night.
Brunswick County Schools' Friday schedule returns to normal, according to school offcials as of 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
Hurricane Earl is expected to miss Brunswick County as it churns toward the Carolinas coast today.
The category-4 storm is expected to have greater impact on the Outer Banks area, where mandatory evacuations have been implemented.
N.C. Gov. Bev Perdue, along with governors in Virginia and Maryland, also has declared a state of emergency.
By the time Earl approaches this region Thursday night, the hurricane is expected to turn north, which will minimize its effects on the Brunswick County coastal area.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
Below, Josh Holden from theHB.tv shares this video of Earl's impact on Holden Beach Thursday afternoon.
