WHITEVILLE—The West Brunswick golf team finished one stroke ahead of host West Bladen on April 12 at Land O’ Lakes Golf Club. Three Trojan golfers shot in the 70s to seal a second-place finish, one stroke ahead of the host Knights.
For the tournament, the conference team scores were South Brunswick 307, West Brunswick 311, host West Bladen 312, Whiteville 337, North Brunswick 351, East Bladen 393 and South Columbus 445.
With one regular-season tournament remaining before the conference championship, it is coming down to a battle between the Trojans and Knights for second place. Six strokes separate the two teams.
The total team scores are South Brunswick 1,646, West Brunswick 1,678, West Bladen 1,684, Whiteville 1,808, North Brunswick 1,891, East Bladen 2,018 and South Columbus 2316.
Greg Hensley and Keith Hopkins tied with 76s to lead West Brunswick. Harrison Taylor shot a 77 and Jack Donoghue an 82.
South Brunswick’s Dalton Gore was the tournament medalist with a 3-under-par 69. The other golfers in the top five were Cameron Winebarger, 73 (Knights); Blake Baysden, 76 (Knights); Hensley, 76; and Hopkins, 76.
This conference championship begins at noon April 26 at Oak Island Golf Club.
