Trojans defeat Scorpions 72-12 in wrestling

 LELAND—The West Brunswick wrestling team won 10 of 12 matches by fall in beating North Brunswick 72-12 Dec. 12.


For the Trojans, three freshmen and four sophomores won non-forfeit matches.

The match began at 160 pounds, and West junior Dylan Darguzas wrestled to a first-period fall against freshman Jacob Kemp.

North won the next two matches. Sophomore Evin Bellamy wrestled to a victory by fall at 170 pounds against West senior Nolan Scoggins. Senior Homero Segura won by fall at 182 pounds against West senior Caleb Dispirito.

West then won the next 11 matches.

At 195 pounds, junior Dakota Smith won by fall in 37 seconds against sophomore Derrick Wheeler.

Senior Bobby McRainey won by fall in the 220-pound match against freshman Christopher Valverde.

Sophomore Joe Gore remained unbeaten at heavyweight, winning by fall against sophomore Douglas Hickman.

The Trojans won by forfeit at 106 pounds. At 113 pounds, sophomore Jyquan Green won by fall in 50 seconds against sophomore Mekhi Nixon.

West sophomore John Emmino won by fall in 32 seconds in the 120-pound match. Sophomore Campbell Alspaugh won by fall in 28 seconds in the 126-pound match against North freshman Ervin Stackhouse.

West freshman Michael Nelson won by fall in 31 seconds at 132 pounds against freshman Kirk Miller.

West freshman Peyton Tipton won by fall in 1:29 at 138 pounds against sophomore Ian Munna.

West freshman Sterlin Fullerton wrestled to a victory by injury default at 145 pounds over Anthony Walker.

West senior Edge Kirby won by fall in the 1:28 at 152 pounds against senior Librado Hernandez.
