Trojans lose 7-0 in soccer playoffs

The West Brunswick High School girls’ soccer team gave up a goal in the first 30 seconds and a goal in the last 90 seconds of the first half as it lost 7-0 May 8 to West Carteret in the first round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 3A state soccer playoffs.
The Trojans finish the season 12-7-1. West Carteret is 11-7.
Carteret led 3-0 at the half, scoring its second goal in the first four minutes.
West Brunswick sophomore goalkeeper Meg Fletcher made two saves that prevented Carteret from extending its lead. Midway through the game, she leaped to her right to catch a floating shot on goal.  With about 11 minutes left, she dropped to her knees to make a save of a shot.
But Carteret scored in the first four minutes of the second half and scored three more goals en route to the victory.
