West Brunswick had one of the state’s top-ranked high school wrestling teams on the ropes last week but couldn’t deliver the knockout punch.
Laney won the final three bouts—including a tiebreaking pin in the final weight class—and posted a 38-32 victory against the visiting Trojans in Tuesday’s Mideastern 3A/4A Conference match.
“It was a heartbreaker,” said West Brunswick coach Jimmy Caraway. “We just didn’t win the close ones. We had three close matches that we just didn’t pull out.”
